Residential Wiring

A house is not a home without electricity. Electrical power in your home comes from wires running throughout the whole place — including ceilings and floors — providing you with all the electricity you need! From your refrigerator to the lights in every room, they all rely on working electricity for power.

A lot has changed since wiring was first introduced more than 150 years ago. However, it remains important today because of how many electronic devices depend on having reliable electrical sources. Electricians work hard so that our homes can stay powered up no matter what life throws at us.

It's safe to say that without it, you wouldn't be able to operate your refrigerator, computer, hairdryer, or even an electric hairbrush. Most of your appliances probably wouldn't even exist.

You need to get the wiring right during new construction. Everything you do with your house has to be safe, and that includes the wiring and installation of it. If there are no precautions in place, for example, someone could trip over exposed wires or have something else fall on them, which would cause injury. These protections will help keep things running smoothly down the line, so they're worth planning for during new construction.

It can be quite a hassle to try and make changes to electrical wiring when there isn't any room in the house for the modifications. Getting new construction wiring right is crucial because it can make a difference in how much money you spend on electrical repairs and maintenance in the future.

There are some steps you can take to make sure new construction wiring is done correctly. For starters, it's essential to hire a professional electrician, like those at Custom Electrical. Even if you know someone who knows how to work with wires, hiring an expert on new construction wiring is still a good idea. An electrician will ensure that your wiring is done right and that no one in the home is at risk of an electrical shock.

Understanding Electrical Codes and Standards

Every new residential construction project is required to follow national and local codes for new construction wiring. These sets of rules are long, complicated and confusing for someone outside of the electrical industry, which is why it is crucial to find an experienced, trustworthy electrician who can navigate them for you.

Projects must obey the National Electric Code, which covers everything from guidelines about outlets and grounding, how high wall outlets or light switches are, how many circuits have to be in your bathroom and room-by-room instructions for the rest of your house. What about counters, or a kitchen island? There’s rules for those, too. The national code even discusses requirements for each of the major appliances. In order to be up to code, new homes must have a licensed electrician conducting the work.

Local codes for new construction wiring are usually similar, but you still want an experienced professional who knows what the minute details are. The codes are standards for a reason. If they’re not followed, then you may face the risk of fires, your home will not be compliant and you stand the chance of damage to your building. It’s not the place to cut corners when safety is on the line.

Our electricians at Custom Electrical Services have more than two decades of experience with national and local codes. That attention to detail is critical when it comes to assuring that new construction wiring is compliant from the start. We will walk with you through the entire process to answer any questions you have and prevent surprises from sneaking up on you. Contact us to schedule an estimate for your project.

Wiring Modifications and Renovations

Sometimes you need electrical modifications after initial construction. For example, if you want to have more space in the kitchen or bathroom, you may need to increase your electrical wiring and power to allow for those changes. The same goes if you want to add more outlets. Wiring should be run to different points in the home. This dispersion makes sure that outlets aren't plugged into the wrong locations, leading to an electrical shock or fire.

Wiring for new construction tends to be easier because the walls and floors are not installed yet. Once the home is built and you need electrical modifications or renovations, it becomes a great deal more complicated. Getting it right from the start is key.

Renovations and modifications can become quite costly if you have an older home with old horsehair plaster walls. Unless you have meticulously updated and maintained an older electrical system, it may need to be replaced completely.

Had these guys and gals help me update my electrical as well as run some power out to a shop. The whole process was super smooth, Kourtnie nailed the paperwork side of things (even got a permit and inspection that I had no idea we needed) and Cory was great to work with on the installation side of things. The price was the same from the original bid all the way to the final product, which is always nice. The work itself was exactly what we agreed upon. Really nothing but good things to say about my whole experience. Would totally recommend these guys to any of my friends!

We are so appreciative of the work that Morgan and his team did on behalf of Custom Electrical for our new home. Custom Electrical provided a thorough, exact, and honest/fair bid right from the start, and they stuck to it! We had a budget, and they respected it. They were always timely and very professional. Attention was paid to every detail, and they made sure things were just how we wanted them. They went above and beyond in so many ways, from being patient with our kids running around to coming back an extra time to make sure everything was just right. We will be recommending them to everyone we know. Thanks you guys!

5 stars and a forever customer! My family moved into an older home and we've had Custom Electric over several times to help get our home working a bit more how I would like it. I appreciate that I am always able to get someone to my home quickly- whether it's to install a light switch or rewire an entire room. Everyone who's been in my home has been professional, friendly, and consistent in their quality work. Maybe most of all, I am grateful for the honest communication and great customer service! After the last visit, I had some concerns that were cleared up right away with kindness and respect (especially for dealing with a not so electrical savvy me). I would send everyone I know and love who have electrical need to Custom Electric- they won't let you down!!

These guys/gals are always very helpful. I got a tech out to the house same day I called to repair a GFI receptacle that kept tripping open. Cory (technician) troubleshoot the problem, corrected it and was gone in about 30 minutes. I have used them for other projects with no complaints. I use them without hesitation for any electrical issues.
